David, Mike's son, has grown up working in all aspects of Chism Bros Painting. He worked along side his father and uncle as well as a number of their foreman and crew leaders when he was in high school and his early college years. David has also done his fair share of grunt labor, lots of sanding, washing company vehicles, organizing the paint shop, passing out door hangers - you name it, he's probably done it. David was our chief estimator for close to a decade while also spending the last couple of decades running our business development and marketing department. As Mike Chism transitions out of the business, David has taken over as as the President and CEO. He currently lives in Frederick, MD with his wife and 7 children. He makes regular trips out to San Diego and works closely with our GM, Frank Long.
A gentleman in every respect, Michael is faithful, generous and thoughtful to his customers, his employees, and his family. He pauses before he reacts, trying to see all angles of a situation and all possible solutions. Driven by his love for God and his faith in His Word, Michael has a delightful commitment to his family and a very apparent and deep love for his wife. Outside of painting, he enjoys working out, biking, hiking, and all kinds of games, physical and mental. “We hire people based on their good character, and then we train them to be good craftsman.”
Terry Chism has been a vital part of the business “from the start, when we did all the paperwork without computers and answered the phones at home!” Cheerful and friendly, with a long-term, stable perspective on the company, she is thankful for our wonderful customers and wants to provide them the best experience possible. She is grateful to God for his grace towards Chism Brothers, but she is even more grateful for her husband, three children, and seven grandchildren. She loves swimming at the Y, bike-riding in Coronado, gardening, scrapbooking, and Bible-Study Fellowship. “I like being a part of Mike’s work, even if it’s a small time spent at the office. It gives me a better understanding of his day, his joys, and his challenges."
I came on board with Chism Brothers in 2018. I was looking for a nice little painting job, or so I thought. Although I have done some home painting and creative painting, the bulk of my last 28 years of work experience has been in management. So, my search for a “nice little painting job” turned into a wonderful opportunity to use my management experience and apply it to a painting business.
I have tremendous enthusiasm about the work we do here at Chism Brothers, working in some of the finest homes in America's finest city, revitalizing and restoring beautiful places. What a privilege to be able to make a contribution to this work. It is really the most satisfying role that I have had in my management career.
Chism Brothers has developed a legacy of excellence in Character & Craftsmanship for over 30 years. My personal mission is to help preserve, enhance, and propel these qualities well into the future. I love to work with people and processes, solving problems, and building on strengths. My favorite part of working with Chism Brothers is the people who make up our team. What a great group of people! I continue to learn so much from each of them daily. We have the best painters in the city.
In my spare time I love to be with family and friends, active outdoors, serving as a man of faith, or working on my latest creative project in paint or clay.
I have some family friends that own a painting company here in San Diego. They heard Chism Brothers needed an office manager so they recommended me for the position. (Is this where I tell the part about how both Michael and Terry called on speakerphone to schedule the interview and how I thought it was my daughter and answered with a bright and cheery “Hello Beautiful!!!!”? What an intro to my personality!) At the time, I had been praying for a position that had some “Meat” to it. I needed it to challenge me intellectually and satisfy my need to be social. I most certainly got that and so much more!
I love the diversity each day brings. The true pleasure I have when I get to speak with customers that we have worked with before, the opportunity of getting to know our new clients and working with the schedule so that it fits into everyone’s timing. And than there are all the office duties that it takes to make sure the office runs smoothly, especially making our daily lattes!
My time off is very quiet. I love to spend time with my 2 children and close friends, reading a good book, watch movies and long walks on the beach with my dog.
I started painting with my step-father when I was about 18 years old. We worked together as a team for over 7 years. I worked for several other companies over the years until I finally found Chism Brothers in 1993.
I have enjoyed meeting and working with the many clients over the years. While I find great satisfaction adding color to people’s lives, I have also noticed how a choice in color says a lot about changes a client may be going through. That is one of blessings about working at Chism Brothers, they teach us to look beyond the paint on the walls.
I am married with 3 lovely daughters. I enjoy biking, swimming, listening to classical music, and listening to my favorite christian radio programs.
I started painting 20 years ago. I sort of stumbled into the road that lead me to my career at Chism Brothers. A friend of mine who was friends with Pat Chism told me of an opening they had at Chism Brothers for a painter. I did not know anything about painting at the time, but I really needed the job, so I took a step of faith. It is 20 years later and not only have I learned the skills required to be a good painter, but I have also found a job I love.
One of the things I like about painting is it gives me an opportunity to bring life back into things that have faded over the years. A splash of color can go a long way into adding character to home or business and I love seeing a clients eyes when they see the completed work. I have to say my job has brought me quite a bit of satisfaction over the years.
During me free time I really enjoy taking my kids to the park. We love spending the afternoons playing baseball or soccer. Sometimes we go as a family and ride our bicycles on the numerous trails. Occasionally you may catch us at the zoo or Legoland. We also like to go as a family to Mexico for mission trips.
Grant has been with us for a few years now. David Chism was good friends with Grant's older brother. This is how we originally found out about Grant. We lured him into working with CBP knowing he had a strong work ethic and enjoyed the painting industry too. After just a year working in the field as a project manager, we had an opening as a lead estimator. We offered this position to Grant knowing that he also had great people skills. We taught him the art of estimating, and he doing extremely well pricing out projects for customers. We are very happy to have him as part of the team.
Tell us more about your project, then we’ll provide a clear, detailed estimate for you to review.
Our painters will deliver exactly what we discussed. And they're actual, trusted employees - not subcontractors. Refreshing, right?
Let's check out the finished product together. We want to be sure everything came out just right. 100% satisfied? We'd rather you be 100% thrilled.
We don’t take your trust lightly. These promises reflect who we are, how we conduct our business, and the core values that guide every step of our process. We promise to:
“I received bids from three different reputable firms before selecting Chism Brothers. It was clear to me that they did quality work before I even called. What set them apart was their clear communication and professionalism. Our sincere thanks to Grant and the entire team. It looks great! -”
